This was a wedding I couldn’t wait to shoot! As you may recall, Lisa & Nate were my amazing couple who looked so fabulous at their engagement session I felt like I was shooting an editorial. Click here and see for yourself! As for their wedding, what a beautiful day! The weather was perfect in the quaint little town of Kleinburg and we found an awesome candy store to shoot in. Thanks to BonBons & Brittle for letting us temporarily take over their store and hooking us up with that giant lollipop! If you have a sweet tooth and want to drop $50 on candy, go get the Whirly Pop lollipop!

These two are too cute, he makes his own jams and she makes her own wedding cake. How awesome is that? It was so great to see them so happy! I loved shooting them! And maybe it’s because they watch America’s Next Top Model but seriously, they got that “smize” thing down haha. Such a beautiful couple but you don’t need me to tell you that after you see their photos :). I had such a great time photographing their wedding and am so happy they chose me to document such an important day in their lives. Congratulations Lisa & Nate! All the best to you guys!

I had the pleasure of attending Jon & Holly’s wedding while down in the Dominican. My first beach wedding and it was grand! Simple, relaxed and beautiful. Since I was not the official photographer, I only took a few shots and tried not to be THAT PERSON at a wedding getting in the way of the hired photographer. Those Uncle Bob’s or Aunt Jane’s or Cousin Vinny’s are the worst. Please don’t be that person when you attend a wedding because the photographer is doing their best to get the shot as that’s what they were hired for but they can’t do it if your head is always in the way. K? Thanks :)

Anyway, it was a lovely wedding with perfect weather and an amazing backdrop. However, our tan lines and sunburns were something else but those details just add to the wedding story :) Thank you Jon & Holly for letting me be a part of your big day! Congrats to you both! On our next trip however, I will opt out of the parasailing ;)

This is a photo intense posting, so please be patient if the page is taking a little longer to load. Trust me, it’s worth the wait ;)

I finally had my first taste of an all-inclusive resort last week – it tasted mostly like jello. For whatever reason, I was loving it last week while I stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Punta Cana. I ate jello for 4 days, who does that?? Aside from the delicious jello, the hotel was pretty sweet. The beach was even more amazing and stretched far beyond what I was willing to walk haha. That sun is serious business! My boyfriend, his family and I were in Punta Cana to attend his sister’s wedding. I love how relaxing the wedding was, simple and beautiful and all the important people were there to celebrate her big day.  Congrats to Jon & Holly! Shots from their wedding will be posted later.

So I’ve never experienced the wonderous world of all-inclusive resorts before and all of the eating, beaching, sleeping, swimming, snacking, sleeping, eating, sleeping and never having to get my wallet out. It was splendid! It also felt great to be disconnected for once and just slowing down and enjoying my fruit punch. I probably didn’t utilize the all you can drink aspect as much as others but I loved their fruit punch with pineapple and cantaloupe pieces. Not very exciting but MAN IT’S GOOD! I absolutely love the beach and being able to shoot there is that much better. Watching the sunrise on a beach is the only thing I will voluntarily get up at 6:00am for.  Aside from that I have a rule, friends don’t call friends before 10am. My friends know it haha. Overall, a fantastic week and I think I managed to get some pretty good shots. Like all vacations, the return to reality is the worst part. Or if you’re like me, you just deny it while topping off your fruit punch with a little blue umbrella! Yum! Hope you enjoy the photos! Leave a comment and let me know what you think! You can also take me on your next vacation and I will take the most beautiful jumping shot you’ve ever done :)

I’m somewhat surprised that I haven’t written on this topic yet. Well it’s late and I’m exhausted but I thought I would share some thoughts before the wonderful land of sleep. Anyone who knows me knows my love for jumping. I mean why wouldn’t you love jumping? It’s good exercise, it’s silly, it’s fun, you’re probably making a ridiculous face and it kinda brings out the kid in you. I firmly believe that there’s an art to jumping. It’s not easy to jump and not look totally silly, but then again who cares…unless you’re modelling, then that strained and uncomfortable face just won’t work. There’s so many poses you can do too! Most people go for the star jump, probably because it’s the safest and easiest to do. However, kudos to those who try to switch it up, you know, do something a little more risqué. I personally love the Saved by the Bell (another blog post that needs to happen btw) “friends forever” high-five jump. Not as cool if you’re solo in the photo though. Jumping is always more fun with others! Then there’s the professional jumpers who do it off of buildings and such, I’m not quite there. I’d say I’m more of a recreational jumper. From my years of jumping experience, I’ve also learned that snapping that photo at the right moment is also a skill. Super fast shutter speeds and frames per seconds help but timing is still everything. I think I’m pretty close to perfecting the self timed jump.

Whether it’s a High School Musical “I’m extremely happy about everything'” jump, where the body is poised and the grin is out of control, or the “I’m awesome and gonna giver 110% even if I fall on my face” jump, where limbs are flying and when you see the photo it makes you want to know how they landed, any jump is a good jump. Wait, that’s a lie. Jumps are lame if you didn’t want to do it and it shows and/or you didn’t even make it off the ground. Those people should not jump because serious injuries can occur from lack of enthusiasm. Remember, safety first. Jumping is fun but I don’t condone crazy jumping either, like infront of a moving vehicle or off a bridge. I don’t even think I could go bungee jumping. I’d probably throw up.  I like good clean fun jumps! I love jumping and sharing the exhilaration and excitement with others!

Some might ask, “Navy, why do you always have to jump?”, then I would answer, “Because I hate looking through your boring vacation photos.” Let’s be serious here, who actually wants to go through hundreds of vacation photos of someone posing by some statue that you have no idea about. Really, why do you look so happy standing by a thimble? And why is that thimble even there? So next time you’re off on some holiday and ready to Sears pose it by that palm tree, think “how can I make this awesome?” and jump. If you end up jumping into the palm tree, well then I can assure you that photo will be a family favourite for many generations to come. It’ll probably get lots of ‘likes’ on Facebook too.

This photo below is probably my all time favourite. I call it my Great Wall Jump of China. I have a growing collection of jumping photos that I can’t all find to post at the moment but I will share with you my beloved I ♥ jumping 4 forever! album from Facebook. Check them out! Happy jumping! :)

On Monday Devon and I took a road trip up north for a little camping adventure. We went up to Tobermory and checked out Fathom Five National Marine Park and Flowerpot Island. It always amazes me when I see places like these and then realize I’m still in Ontario. The landscape was spectacular and the water was crystal clear! And as much as I dislike stuff like guided tours (I’d rather go off discovering on my own), the glass bottom boat tour to Flowerpot Island was well worth the $40. Blue Heron Cruises offers a few different options to get to the island. Along the way there, they also showed us some interesting sites including Big Tub Lighthouse and two shipwrecks. Departing at 9:30am, we only had to share the boat with one other couple. Pretty awesome to have all that room to move around the boat for photos :) And the water is so clear that you could get a good view of the wrecks from anywhere on the top deck of the boat. With the cruise, you have the option of disembarking at Flowerpot Island or just going along for the ride. We stayed for a few hours to do some hiking and check out the place. You can also camp on the island but due to a recent bear sighting, camping was prohibited at the time.

The island itself is pretty small so it doesn’t take very long to complete the trail. Along the hiking trails you can check out the lush green interior of the island, the lighthouse, a cave and the unique rock formations found along the shore. I’m pretty sure I took over 30 photos of rocks. I think my friend Candace, a geologist, would love this place haha. The sign said 1-2 hours to walk one of the trails but of course it took us almost twice as long with all the stopping and photo taking hahah. It really was quite a fascinating place to visit and explore!  I loved it! I wish we had more time as it would have been great to hang out on the beach and go for a swim.

After a day of hiking and sadly some of the most working out I’ve done in a while, we headed back to the mainland and then camped out at Cyprus Lake, a camp site about 15mins from Tobermory. I love camping but unfortunately mosquitoes also love me. Thank goodness for Off! It keeps the bugs away AND I smell like a tropical breeze! So aside from the howling winds, creepy crawlies and scenes from the Blair Witch Project haunting my over active imagination, camping was great! LOL. Overall a great trip and I would love to go back to that area again.

If you’re looking for something active and outdoorsy to do this summer, I definitely recommend checking out these places. Cute town, amazing landscapes, beautiful sunsets and fun activities make it a great little place for an adventure! For more info on any of the places I mentioned above, check out the links below, some good stuff there! (And no, they’re not paying me for this plug, I just thought it was real purrty there :) ) Flowerpot Island rocks!
